Miss Kalinga 2011 Winners

During our time, there were still no Beauty Pageants. It may be because; the Kalinga people then were unaware of the beauty that lies amidst them. And I’m not talking about physical beauty but of a loveliness and pureness of heart that spring from within the depths of the soul that radiates to the outside to make a person beautiful.

The Kalinga people have always been beautiful to me. In Tabuk, Kalinga, A beauty pageant was held and these are the dazzling Kalinga women who won in the pageant.

Thanks again to Jerry Tieng for the pictures.

Lubo and all the Memories It Brings

I previously lived in Taloctoc, a far-flung barrio in the heart of Kalinga. Taloctoc has neighboring villages like Lubo and Mangali. These villages or barrios are an hour or two away from Taloctoc; Mangali is a one hour hike for me, while Lubo, well , I do not know yet, because I’ve never been there. It would only be an hour's trek for seasoned hikers. For me, perhaps 2 to 3 hours?

But I had always wanted to visit Lubo. It was my heart’s desire. Why? Let me tell you a little secret- my puppy love and first love has resided there…lol…. Oooops, that seems like a thousand of eons ago, in another planet..the first emotions of young love are sometimes fascinating.

I am smiling as I write this because I remember how naïve and dreamy-eyed I had been thinking that he could sweep me off my feet and carry me to Wonderland in his shining armor.

In some ways, he did, but had eventually left my young, vulnerable heart broken and torn apart, that I never thought I could recover from. Young hearts may grieve tremendously; however, there is nothing that time cannot heal.

Eventually, I met my one true love - my better half, and realized that my doubts about being able to allow my heart to beat again, is all for nothing. Young arteries and vascular veins heal with the passage of time.

I don’t regret though what had happened then; I had experienced life to its fullest with my moments with him. It was a joyful, thrilling and once-in a lifetime ride.

Up to this day, the shadow of this person from Lubo visits me now and then, and I smile as the memories flood over. After all, he has been part of my wonderful life!

His name? I have forgotten now.

I'm kidding...hmmmm, shall I reveal it? I guess it's safe already. I have silver hairs and gnarled hands now. Old age can give you the license to be "brutally" candid.

It starts with a letter "P". LOL

N.B.

I was overjoyed when I saw this picture taken by a very skilled and talented photographer, Jerry Tieng, who has extensively traveled to Lubo ( I envy you) and has taken numerous stunning pictures of the place. This is a view of Lubo from the mountain top, courtesy of Jerry.

During the old days, keeping financial data intact in a far flung village is a Herculean task. Oftentimes, I find myself worrying if I would be able to consolidate all my data when I will need them. Recently though, all these complex financial budget reports can easily be managed.

You can manage your budget without the complexities by using a customized budget worksheet. This would provide a quicker way for you to understand investment, credit cards and debts payments.

Your vital financial data will be easily accessible to you and you will be able to analyze them and maximize the information provided for your success in managing your financial resources.

Based on this easy automatic money management, you will be spending less, because the program will identify which are your financial weaknesses and strengths. Budgeting will also be a breeze because you can have a bird’s eye view of the whole financial picture.

Now, it does not matter whether I reside in the boondocks, as long as I have my laptop and Internet broadband with me, I can easily peruse the status of my finances through this extremely useful program.

Living in the mountains after all, does not denote that I deprive myself of my little pleasures.

Banawe Rice Terraces, A Symbol of Persistence and Ingenuity

Musings By: AJCHTAR

The wonder that is the Banawe Rice Terraces...

It's difficult enough to have to build structures with a complete set of tools and the aid of construction machines, imagine how difficult it is to carve rice paddies off the side of mountains that are more than 300 meters in height with your bare hands and simple tools.

Although it is an extremely difficult task, harder than the herculean effort it took to build the great pyramids. it is a feat that was accomplished by the ancestral Filipinos when they built the Banawe Rice Terraces. To top it off, they even built a highly effective irrigation system to make sure the plants were well watered, it's an accomplishment that simply can't be replicated, you can't bring huge construction machines to the side of a huge mountain and not destroy what you've been working hard for.

The Banawe Rice Terraces are definitely proof of how persevering and hard working Filipinos are. Despite their material deficit they still managed to carve what is arguably one of the greatest human accomplishments, if you think putting up a pyramid slab is, imagine having to carve through the side of tough mountains and have no support on your body, the moment you fall is the same you may drop dead.

Unfortunately, these days, less children take interest in planting on the Terraces, the people of Banawe who still plant there claim that the rice yield is a lot less than what is needed to supply their needs, sadly, many people of the provinces decide to go to the city and turn their backs on what is probably the greatest man-made wonder in the Philippine archipelago, the Banawe Rice Terraces.

The Best Way to Talk to Strangers

The Taloctoc custom of hospitality is ingrained and inculcated in each Taloctoc native. That’s why when people from town, cities or neighboring provinces visit, the people welcome these “strangers” with open arms and offer them the best they could.
In this Internet world though, people are wary of trusting strangers. But when you want to talk to strangers without endangering your privacy, then you can do it at iMeetzu.

Here are some options you can select from in this amazing site.

• The idea of “open source conversationalism” has never been done in any website. Most similar sites would request you to register, provide lots of personal information before you are allowed to interact. This site allows you contact immediately upon clicking one button. It is an ingenious and fascinating concept to be able to feel free and communicate with other people on a broader range.

• You can chat with a “stranger’ without registering. All you have to do is to tick on the button and you are all set.

• You can use the iPhone application for free and enjoy your chatting experience.

• You can have interesting conversations with people you meet at random in the site. This would broaden your social network and would increase your online integrity.

If you want to make the most out of your online interactions, then this is the place to be.
